Brendan is Five!

Here's a glimpse Brendan at age five:

Favorite Color(s):  Yellow, green  [Mom says: he actually doesn't have one paticular favorite color, just as long as it isn't a girl color.]

Favorite Friends:  Charlie (his cousin), Elijah, Daniel, Benjamin, Justin, Little Boy (his imaginary friend), Big Boy (his imaginary friend), "Emily will be one of my friends when she grows up like me!"  [Mom says: "Charlie" was out of his mouth almost before I was done with the question, which is so sweet.  Also, I love his comment about Emily!  Poor Megan, who is his most frequent playmate, gets the shaft.]

Favorite Toy:  His construction trucks, Snuggles (the bear he sleeps with), Charlie (the other bear he sleeps with), Blankie (Snuggles' and Charlie's blanket he made)  [Mom says:  Yep!]

Favorite Thing To Do/Play Inside:  Construction Site  [Mom says:  Absolutely what he plays the most, along with Hot wheels, trains, dinosaurs, making forts, and asking to play dad's Xbox.]

Favorite Thing To Do/Play Outside:  Play baseball, play on the swingset, sand digger, kill bunnies (he's never killed a bunny, I swear, but he made me write it down and came over to double check that I had!), mow with Dad, cut weeds with his clippers with Mom, fishing with Dad and Grandpa at Lac Qui Parle, fishing with Papa, Dad and Mom on the pontoon

Favorite Sport:  "Tennis, baseball, golf...all sports, mom!"

Favorite Animal:  Sharks and crocodiles

Favorite Book: Tonka Big Haulers [Mom says:  He was reading that book while he answered.]

Favorite TV Show:  Gator Boys, Call of the Wildman, Wild Kratts  [Mom says:  Yes, yes, and yes!]

Favorite Movie:  Hardhats & Highrises, In Fisherman Fishing Fundamentals

Favorite Supper Food:  Pesto Pasta [Mom says:  He can eat more than Brad!]

Favorite Breakfast:  Homemade pork sausage and blueberry muffins

Favorite Fruit: Peaches

Favorite Snack:  Carrots with hummus

Favorite Treat:  "Kiss and hug from mom" Awwwwww..... then he said Tootsie rolls.

Here are some recent notable comments from Brendan:
-While watching Toy Story 3 one rainy Saturday afternoon, he announced, "Those kids are decimators!" when the little kids were playing with the toys at the daycare.  It completely cracked us up that he came up with such an appropriate (and big!) word.
-The kids and I were headed to the grocery store last week and Brendan, who had been humming along to the music, stopped humming suddenly and said, "Mommy, I have three reasons I can't wait to be a daddy."
"Ummm...okay..."  (Mental note: "Please don't be kissing girls...please don't be kissing girls!"
"First, I get to see Grandma and Grandpa and Papa and Nona whenever I want.  Second, I can eat as much gum as I want.  And three I get to go fishing all day whenever I want!"
"Is that what you think Daddies do?" (Mental note: "Phew!")
"Definitely!"

Things I've learned about having a five-year old son:
-Absolutely anything can be turned into a play gun...sticks, brooms, leggos, anything...
-It's hard being a five-year-old sometimes.  Half the time you want to be a big boy and half the time you just want cuddles and attention from mom and dad.
-He can catch onto things (from concepts to conversations) way faster than I think he can. (And catching onto spelling things out is right around the corner!)
-He can still frustrate me one minute and melt my heart the next faster than anyone I know.
-He's more and more like his daddy every day!
