Riding the Combine

A co-worker of Brad and her husband were in the field harvesting corn the other day, and they gave us a call. Brad had taken the day off to go to a prenatal appointment with the kids and I and to watch the kids so I could work afterwards. Who could pass up an opportunity to participate in harvesting corn?! So we headed to nearby Clara City and joined in for a short time. The kids are still talking about it a week later. Growing up we baled alfalfa and butchered cattle, so I had never really been around a combine in action. Pretty impressive. Each of the kids got a turn riding in the combine with Brad (lots of motion is still making me sick right now...hopefully that will pass in a few weeks), so I sat with whomever wasn't in the combine and watched the harvesting in action and looked for missed corncobs on the ground. The weather was great and we really enjoyed getting to "help." Thanks Marlin and Dianne!

Brendan (in the orange shirt and baseball cap) "helping" combine the corn.

The day was beautiful!

Brendan loved being the in the combine (shocker, huh?) and Brad said he sat excitedly on his lap the whole time (about 20 minutes).

Megan got her turn at "helping" in the combine. Brad said she liked it for the first couple minutes, then grew a little disinterested. Her ride only lasted about 10 minutes. But she laughs, excitedly, when she sees the pictures.
