Montevideo Fiesta Days 2012

We were excited to get to attend the Montevideo Fiesta Days this year (every other year we've been up at the cabin or out of town.)  Over the course of a couple days we attended the kid events and kiddie parade in town, had a supper picnic while watching Brad's softball game, Brendan had his t-ball pictures, the kids and I went on a hayride at the ECFE event, and we all went to the Montevideo Fire Department's events.  We had a good time and are looking forward to attending the Fiesta Days again in the coming years.

They had free pony rides at the park.  Brendan took a turn on Buckwheat.

Emily didn't really feel like a pony ride...so she relaxed in her car seat.

Megan chilled out in her sunglasses while riding Stymie.

In addition to the pony rides, they also had a petting farm, with a pony, a pig, goats, a sheep, a calf, etc.  Above, the kids were petting a goat.

They also had a big blow-up bouncer for the kids.  Brendan did some jumping around (above), but Megan decided she'd watching instead.

After watching Brendan bounce for awhile, Megan and I headed over to listen to the community band playing.  Megan stood and swayed to the music.

Emily kicked on the large towel we brought to sit on during the Kiddie Parade.  She was such a trooper during all of the activities.

The Montevideo Royalty rode 4-wheelers through the parade.

After the Kiddie Parade, we headed over to the softball field to watch one of Brad's games.  We had a picnic supper and I tried to watch some of the game (between keeping an eye on Megan, feeding Emily, and reminding Brendan to not get in the guys' way in the dugout.)  Above, Brendan just loves being one of the guys in the dugout.  He told me he can't wait until he's big so he can be in the Duffy's team, just like Dad.

The kids and I made it to only one of Brad's two games.  It turns out we missed the best game.  Brad had a spectacular diving catch in Center Field that his teammates were still talking about days later (I ran into three separate guys around town and each of them giddily described it for me.  Pretty impressive, Brad!)  He also dove into first base and smashed up his chin.  It was sliced open and full of ooey gooey stuff (above, days later)  Brendan kept asking Brad why he had cottage cheese on his chin.)  He now (months later) has a noticeable scar.

The Montevideo Fire Department had a large kids event set up that we attended.  They had food and games set up for the kids.  There was a big storm headed our way, so we only stayed for about an hour, but the kids still got to participate in some fun activities.  Above, Brendan played in the large bouncy house/slide they had.  Megan was not interested at all...she saw all the older kids going crazy and assumed she'd get trampled.

One activity they had that Megan was interested in was the minnow races.  One of the workers kept trying to give her a minnow and she'd look at him crossly, so he'd try again, and she'd look even more crabby, until I figured out she wanted to catch the minnow out of the pail herself.  The worker laughed and said, "I guess dad does quite a bit of fishing!"  To which I exclaimed, "Dad?  How about mom?!"  Megan was content to play with the  minnows as long as I'd let her.  Above, both Brendan and Megan were fishing out their minnows.

After walking around a bit, Megan had us make our way back to the minnow races!

Brendan couldn't be outdone by Megan, so he had to race again too.

They also had the little kids dress up in fire-fighting jackets and use the hoses for some water fights.  We watched these for quite awhile, but Brendan decided he wasn't going to do this because storm clouds were headed our way (behind us) and bad weather makes him nervous, so he wanted to head home.
