4th of July, 2013

We celebrated the 4th of July in Madison, surrounded by family (and lots of mosquitoes!)  Jill, Chuck and the kids came out for the holiday and weekend and we stayed busy going to the parade, watching the fire department water-fights, lighting off fireworks at Gene and Mary's, and "Oooo"ing and "Ahhh"ing over the town fireworks.  Add in a little golf, some time spent swimming, eating, going for walks, and running around outside, and you have a very busy holiday!

Emily couldn't sit still while waiting for the parade to start.  She was delighted with the sound and feeling of walking on landscaping rocks and spent the fifteen minutes before the parade walking back and forth over them (with the help of dad!)

Megan was not in a good mood before the parade started...but once the candy appeared she was all smiles!

Brendan's all ready, with a candy bag in hand, and a watchful eye to announce when the parade line-up starts moving.

Little Emily, all smiles (as long as she's practicing her walking skills) and curly "wings."

And the parade begins!

Emily was quite happy in the stroller, next to Grandma, watching all the excitement.

Candy time!  Alyssa and Marci were amazing in their sharing with the younger kids.  And the gal with the pasty legs, long shirt and bandanna?  Yup...that's me!

Don't ask me why, but I shed a tear (or two...or ten) watching the kids go for their candy and listening to the bagpipes.

Watching the water fights.

Running through the huge sprinkler during the water fights.

Best buds, Charlie and Brendan.

The kids did a reenactment of their Summer Bible Camp songs.  I was impressed that both Megan and Brendan remembered the words and actions to most of the songs.  (Watching this concert totally choked me up...it was so cute.)

How many Koosmanns/Nelsons does it take to light a firework?  Just kidding...it was so windy that they couldn't get one of the Black Snakes to catch.

I love this picture, just because Brendan and Marci both are covering their ears.
