Lac Qui Parle Fair 2011
We went to the Lac Qui Parle Fair again this year. Jason and Tami and their kids weren't able to come (we missed you!), and Mary had to work Friday and Saturday, so it wasn't everyone, but we had a good time. The weather was hot, but we survived. The kids are getting older, so it's more and more fun to see them get interested in the animals, rides, and fair exhibits. You just can't beat the fair! (*Warning: lots of pictures ahead!*)
Megan, all decked out in her sunglasses and hat, liked the chicks in the kids barn.
Marci (almost 6) and Alyssa (8 1/2), showing me their chicks.
Megan and Charlie really liked the fish exhibits in the wildlife barn...especially the catfish.
It was very, VERY hot out. So after wandering around the fair in the sun, we convinced dad we needed a chocolate shake. The kids and I hung out in the shade of the large tractors and Brad brought the shake to us (what service!) Unfortunately for Brad and I, the kids loved it and we could hardly get it away from them!
After the shake, we sought out some shade and made our way to play some Bingo. Megan wasn't too interested, but Brendan really liked it. He's learning his larger numbers, so it was a good lesson for him. Above, he's playing with Uncle Chuck (in the red) and Brad (in the front.) We didn't actually win, but it was a good time.
Brendan (left) and Charlie, riding the motorcycles.
Megan (and I) riding the carousel.
Brad and Brendan on their annual Big Slide ride.
Brendan (right) and Charlie on the Gator Roller-Coaster.
Uncle Chuck and Marci rode the Octopus. Chuck (who is the guy who goes on the rides with the kids because we all have weak stomachs) got pretty sick-feeling after this one.
Brendan (on the right with the bat) and Charlie won plastic toys at one of the game booths. They enjoyed smashing it out for a few minutes (until we separated them!)
Dad's turn with Megan on the carousel.

Motivated by a container of scrap wood, the kids decided they wanted to hammer the wood together to create things. I don't know that any of the kids had hammered actual wood before, and doing so on the ground and while sitting wasn't the easiest task, but Uncle Chuck was the foreman and he kept a watchful eye on the projects.
Megan wasn't too interested in nailing wood together...she was happier with the ABC singing bus.
The next day we headed back to the fair. Here is Alyssa (left, 8 1/2) and Marci (right, almost 6) holding the baby rabbits. Marci ended up with a few big scratches from her bunny, but I'm pretty sure she thought it was worth it.
Charlie getting a turn with a chick.
Megan, petting a chick.
Brendan took a solo run down the Super Slide (signifying to Brad and I how big he's getting and how quickly it goes!)
Charlie's solo run down the Super Slide.
Alyssa and Marci were going to take a ride on the Tilt-A-Whirl...
...which turned into Charlie and Brendan wanting to go too...which turned into Brad getting voted as the adult person to ride along (insert evil cackle here!)
Mid-Tilt-A-Whirl ride.
More mid-tilt-a-whirl. Brad did not fair so well with the tilt-a-whirl ride. The kids seemed to do okay, but Brad hardly ate anything and felt out-of-sorts for a couple days afterwards. (Yes, a couple of days.) I was delighted to point out that if he continued feeling that way, all day, every day, for at least three months, he'd have a glimpse of what pregnancy felt like!
