Yesterday, Brendan and Megan wanted to watch videos of when they were infants. So we sat in front of the computer, watching Brendan bang pots and pans together, Megan getting a bath, Brendan's first tries at dancing, and Megan rolling over. We ended up watching quite a few more videos of Brendan than Megan, as Brendan would get bored and start whining whenever he wasn't in the video (yes, yes, I know....apple doesn't fall far from the tree...yadda, yadda...) :)
One of Brendan's favorite videos was from a year-and-a-half ago. We had made a doctor's office for him under the kitchen table, complete with a paper sign stating that "Dr. Brendan is IN." He talked about the video all morning long. So, when Megan went down for her nap, we reconstructed it (complete with sign and everything) and he had me be the patient again. He mimicked everything he did in the first video...he ace bandaged my arm, took my temperature and blood pressure and gave me a shot. Then, he varied from the script in a way I thought was simultaneously touching and hilarious.
Brendan pulled over a storage tub and turned it over. "This is the tv, Mom."
He went into the other room, grabbed a small can of pretend dog food from the vet kit, lifted my shirt to expose my stomach, shook the can over me and said, "This is the cream, Mom."
Then he grabbed a reflex hammer, held it up to me and said, "This is the....thing...Mom." And he gently rubbed it over my stomach, back and forth. "Do you see the baby on the tv, Mom?"
It was so cute.
"It's the gummi bear stage, mom!"
I laughed and asked him if he understood what that meant. He told me that the baby's the size of a gummi bear. I told him he was right, and that it also kind of looked like a gummi bear right now, as it didn't have long arms and legs like us, but that it would soon.
He got quiet and thoughtful for a second. "Hmmmmm...." he said. "Will it be blue, or red, or green? Hmmmmmm..."
