Halloween 2010
Happy Halloween! We had a fun-filled and drawn-out Halloween holiday. On Thursday we went to the Montevideo Main Street Trick-or-Treating event where we enjoyed 45 minutes of trick-or-treating up and down main street, enjoying the very warm weather we had that day. Saturday we went to the Montevideo American Leagion where they had a kind of Halloween kiddie carnival going on. On Sunday we had supper at Brad's parents' house, then trick-or-treated around their neighborhood and stopped by Brad's Uncle Chuck and Aunt Korinne's house to visit. Brendan thoroughly enjoyed Halloween, and Megan is still catching on, but next year she'll be just as crazy about Halloween as her big brother.
Brendan and I made tootsie roll sucker ghosts to pass out to his friends for Halloween treats. His attention span only lasted about ten ghosts, but I thought that was pretty good!
Montevideo has a main street trick-or-treating event every year where kids can go into the businesses and get candy. We took the kids this year (we missed it last year because Megan was just an infant and it was snowing out!) and the weather was perfect for it. We had a great time! Above, Brendan is trick-or-treating at the emergency vehicles exhibit they had set up for the kids.
Brendan got to climb up on the fire truck, since he was dressed like a fireman.
We stopped in the library to trick-or-treat and say hi to Dave, the head librarian and our ex-landlord.

We're headed down main street!
Brendan, showing off his bag of treats (although he couldn't take his eyes off the ambulance we were parked by.)
Brendan tried on his frog costume and enjoyed hopping around for about five minutes, then decided he didn't like the "mitten-things" over his hands, so he didn't want to be the frog on Saturday.
On Saturday afternoon we headed to the VFW where they were having a Halloween event for kids up to 12 years old. It was set up inside like a carnival, where kids could play various games and win prizes (candy, small toys, and stuffed animals). Brendan played bowling, darts, pin the tail on the cat, fishing, musical chairs, and various other carnival games. Above, Brendan is enjoying his cupcake prize for winning musical chairs.
Megan (in her Minnesota Gophers cheerleading outfit) and Brad wait for Brendan to finish his cupcake. Brad spends this time by coloring, and Megan spends this time by watching Brendan and salivating. :)
This is Brendan (in his fireman costume), playing toss tic tac toe.
Megan was showing us some moves with her baton.
On Sunday afternoon we headed to Brad's parents house for supper and trick-or-treating. It works out really well because they have about eight immediate neighbors, and that's the right amount for the kids at this age. Brendan decided to be Cookie Monster to go trick-or-treating, and Brad, Mary, Megan and I took him around the neighborhood (Gene was home handing out candy.) Brendan LOVED the idea of getting candy by trick-or-treating this year (even if he got a little shy sometimes), but I was amazed at his self-control. He never once asked to eat a piece, and we even had one of the neighbors offer up a huge bowl of every kind of candy imaginable, with his encouragements to Brendan to take a bunch, and he reached in....and grabbed one Rolo. And that's all he wanted. And that was the only piece of candy he wanted to eat that night (and he didn't even know what a Rolo was, but he liked it!)
After trick-or-treating, we headed over to Brad's Aunt Korinne and Uncle Chuck's house to say hi. We got to see Brad's cousins, Chad and Cody, too. Megan attached herself to Chuck, who didn't seem to mind.
