Mother's Day Weekend at Rose Lake

We spent Mother's Day up at Rose Lake with my family and Uncle Larry, and in between the chatting, eating (grilled steaks, pasta with homemade sauce, grilled hot dogs, etc.), and playing with the kids, we put in the docks and lifts, picked up sticks, mowed the lawns, and put the pontoon in the water. It was sunny, but cold and windy, on Saturday, and sunny and warmer on Sunday. The only thing that would have made the weekend better is if we could have gotten some fishing and skiing in...but I'll have to wait until further into summer for that. It was a very nice, family-filled weekend.

The guys all went out early Saturday to get the pontoon ready for launching. Brendan couldn't contain his excitement to go fishing and took his rod with him everywhere.

On Saturday it was very windy (white caps all over Rose Lake), and the wind made the air very cold.

The waves and wind were no match for Brad, Dad and Uncle Larry. They put in the little dock and lifts very quickly.

Brendan was playing on the lawn mower when he looked up, into the shed, and saw all the fishing rods hanging on the wall. He squealed and ran in to look at them. I never thought I'd find something that could make him willingly get off a tractor!

Papa had pushed the lawn mower out of the shed so they could charge the battery, so after awhile, Brendan decided he needed to push the mower back in. And he pushed. And pushed. And pushed...

Sunday (Mother's Day), after church, Brendan and Nona wandered around and spent time together.

One of Brendan's pastimes up at the lake was helping Nona pick up dog poop (great, right?) Nona had gotten him a shovel/rake/hoe set on Saturday, and he loved using the "scooper-thing" (aka: hoe) to "help" Nona get rid of the nice surprises the three dogs leave behind.

The guys were incredibly perfectionist about putting in the big dock on Sunday. It seriously took them about four hours (due to re-doing some parts) and a broken shovel (due to my husband obviously having the muscles of The Hulk!) During one of their "breaks" Brendan grabbed his shovel and must have decided that the lake water didn't look even on either side of the dock, so he did his best at scooping water from one side to the other to even it out.

Our family (Megan is seven months and Brendan is 34 months)

We had a spaghetti supper right before we left, and Brendan could barely keep his eyes open (and that's some serious tired we're talking about, when he doesn't finish his beloved pasta!) So Aunty Dooney cuddled with him for about a half hour while we finished packing the car.
