Summer 2009
Here are some of the Koosmann family happenings in the last couple of weeks...
We are on our way to the Chippewa County Fair (held in Montevideo.) Brendan looked like such a stud with his glasses that I had to whip around and take his picture.
I didn't get any pictures of Brendan going around the actual fair, but we had a pretty good time. We were only there for a couple hours, but we made it through the animal barns twice, had a quick supper of sandwiches (from home) and sweet corn (free from the fair) and we all shared a chocolate shake as a treat. Above, Brendan is playing on the playground equipment they have installed at the fair by the food stand area (he's at the top of the yellow climbing ladder, checking out all the girls coming his way.) Brendan wouldn't really eat much at the fair (well...except for the shake!) because he was so excited about getting to play after we were done eating. The whole highlight of the fair, for Brendan, were the animal barns though. He's been talking about the animals for days since.
Brendan had a rough couple of days, injury-wise. First, he slammed head-first into the baseboard on a wall as he and Brad were chasing each other through the kitchen, dining, and living rooms (we call it "the loop.") Luckily, he didn't need stitches, but his head swelled up and he had a large bruise (it's the mark on the right side of his face, near the hairline.) Then, the next morning, we were going to wake up Brad in the morning and Brendan was running through the living room, headed towards the bedroom, and something caught his attention, so he turned behind him, but kept running full speed ahead. He turned his head back at the last second, as he slammed into the brick fireplace, and he completely skinned one side of his nose. Both incidents could have been much worse, but the combination made him look pretty banged up. It's the price you pay for being an active kid, I guess.
Brendan now has officially switched to a toddler bed. He even got to help dad put it together.
He just loves his bed. We still have his crib in his room (more for the threat of having to sleep in it than anything), but it hasn't been a problem getting him to go to bed or take a nap. He even likes pretending to nap in it several times a day. I'm sure the novelty will wear off soon, but we're enjoying it in the meantime.
Brendan's first nap in his "big boy bed," complete with his Bob the Builder sheets.
Brendan has discovered how much fun sweet corn is. We had a fish fry and sweet corn the other night and I have no idea where he puts all the food he eats. He seriously almost ate more than me! (It's funny to listen to him saying "Mmmmm, corn. Mmmm, fish. Mmmmm, corn..." as he switches from food to food.) The only part he didn't like was the corn getting stuck in his teeth...but we gave him some dental floss and he now loves all parts of the sweet corn eating process (so much that he claims to have corn stuck in his teeth several times a day so he can get to floss.)
Brendan loves using his mower. He follows us around when we mow and will stay entertained mowing for half-hour stretches at a time. Above, he's helping dad mow around trees.
My guys were sure thirsty after all that mowing!
We have a huge, fairly new playground a couple miles from our house. Brendan loves the playground and it's been fun to see him grow more and more adventurous. One of his favorite things to do is (still) to scoop and dump. There's sand at one park and wood chips at the other and he loves to shovel them into his bucket and dump them out.
