Making the House Our Own
We are so grateful for the help we've gotten from family during the rennovation and moving processes to our new house. From cleaning, painting, and moving to babysitting, we couldn't have done it without the help of our family. Special thanks to my mom & dad, Liz, Lauren & Cathy, Gene & Mary, Chuck & Korinne, Chad & Cody, and Sherry (sorry if I missed anyone!) You guys are wonderful!
There were wallpaper borders in almost every room. Gene and Mary tackled the bedrooms and main bathroom, and my mom worked on the kitchen and laundry room/back entry. Above is the back part of the kitchen, borderless!
The Victoria-looking crown molding is down! Yay!
Because of the smoke smell, we washed down every surface of the house (walls, floors, windows, ceiling, etc.) and re-painted everything. Above, Brad is pulling out the track lighting fixtures so he can paint the kitchen ceiling.
Brendan was such a huge help too. He especially liked painting. He pretty much painted the entire inside of the attached garage (with water). He was so proud of his work.
All the kitchen cupboards needed painting and re-contact papering on the inside too. Here, Mary and Brad are working on painting the inside of the cupboards. (I know it looks like I'm not doing anything but taking pictures, but I swear, I did work too!)
One of the major costs we were assuming was lawn care. And since we only had two push mowers that we used in the cities, we figured we'd have to buy one. But my parents generously offered one of their many older mowers to us (complete with extra blades, tire chains, and a snow blade!! How lucky are we?!) and we're using this beast until it decides to quit for good on us. We are very, very grateful! And Brendan is just estatic that we have a riding mower all of our own!
One of Brendan's first naps in the new house. I thought he looked pretty cute cuddled on George's tummy.

I tried to be dilligent about not over-exerting myself (only happened a time or two) and not being around paint fumes for too long, etc. But with a house to complete, it wasn't very handy that I not do anything. So, I bought a heavy-duty mask and went to work. Brendan thought it was great and, of course, needed a mask too. So, he got one of the dust masks to call his own.
